Avis recognised credit cards include American Express,
Diners, MasterCard, Visa or the Avis charge card.
The rate you are charged depends on the duration of the
rental and your choice of car, luxury or economy, large
or small.
Avis has daily, weekly and monthly rates and the minimum
rental period is 24 hours.

Drivers licence
Renters and additional drivers must be in possession of
a valid unendorsed driver's license of country of
residence. If driver's license is non-roman alphabet, an
international driver's license is required. Please note
that Foreigners must also produce a valid passport. Rule
of the road - drive on the left hand side.
To avoid possible complications when collecting a
vehicle we advise foreign travellers to produce a
drivers licence which has been issued in the same
country as their passport.
Weekend rentals
Payment of Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Loss Waiver
covers 80% of the total responsibility on weekend
rentals. No additional drivers will be permitted on
weekend rentals except direct family members.
Please Note: For weekend rentals we take a credit
card authorisation for the estimated cost of the rental
plus an *additional weekend authorisation as follows:
Inland Locations: R5 000
Coastal Location: R2 000
*Airport Locations - The additional weekend
authorisation will be waived upon presentation of a
valid airline boarding pass. Excludes Kaiser Matanzima
Airport.
Cross Border Rental
No cross border rentals are allowed from South Africa to
Malawi, Angola or Zambia, even if returning to South
Africa.
Please Note: No vehicles are permitted to enter
Zimbabwe or Mozambique.
Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or
Namibia must be in possesion of a letter of authority
obtainable from an Avis location at time of rental, an
additional R1000.00 (incl tax) will be charged to cross
border rentals into Namibia and Botswana.
CROSS BORDER TO NAMIBIA IS PERMITTED AT AN ADDITIONAL
COST OF NAD 110.00 ROAD TAX FEE (TO BE PAID AT THE
NAMIBIAN BORDER), IF DRIVING A NON-NAMIBIAN VEHICLE.

ZAR 3800.00 (incl tax) into Namibia.
ZAR 1600.00 (incl tax) into Botswana.
ZAR 800.00 (incl tax) into Swaziland.
ZAR 800.00 (incl tax) into Lesotho.

Within Country
One way rentals between Avis cities within South Africa
are available.
One way rentals from Eastern Cape, George, Knysna to
Cape Town are subject to a one way fee of ZAR 350.00
One way rentals from Cape Town to Knysna, George,
Eastern Cape are subject to a one way fee of ZAR 600.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban,
Mpumalanga are subject to a fee of ZAR 600.00
One way rentals from Durban, Cape Town, Mpumalanga to
Johannesburg are subject to a fee of ZAR 600.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to/from Sun City are
subject to a fee of ZAR 210.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to/from Rustenburg are
subject to a fee of ZAR 210.00
One way rentals from Durban to/from Richards Bay are
subject to a fee of ZAR 210.00
One way rentals between Richards Bay and St Lucia and
visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
One way rentals between Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred
and visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
One way rentals between East London and Port Alfred and
visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
All other one way rentals between districts are subject
to a one way fee of ZAR 600.00.
One way rentals are available between any city in South
Africa and will be subject to a one way fee.
Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or
Namibia must be in possession of a letter of authority
obtainable from the Avis rental office when collecting
the vehicle.
Outside Country
One way rentals are allowed outside South Africa to the
following countries:
Botswana - ZAR 1600.00
Swaziland - ZAR 800.00
Lesotho - ZAR 800.00
Namibia - ZAR 3800.00
Above fees include VAT.
Additional Drivers
All drivers must be listed on the applicable rental
agreement.
Additional driver charge ZAR 210.00 per person, per
rental.
If an unlisted driver is involved in an accident, or
theft of the vehicle, the renter will be liable for full
damage/ replacement costs.
Petrol
Petrol is not included in our rates. Cars are delivered
full and the customer is charged for full refill upon
termination of rental. Fuel consumption is gauged from
customer service centre to customer service centre.
Rental Contract Fee
A rental contract fee of ZAR50.00 is applicable to all
rentals. There is a legal requirement to store documents
for a period of 5 years. The fee is for the cost of
administering, storing and retrieving all rental
contracts.
Accident Administration Fee
As the responsibility amount on the waivers only
contributes towards the repair costs of the vehicle, an
administration fee of ZAR 500.00 per accident will be
levied to cover the costs of processing the claim.
This includes items such as assessor fees, quote
gathering and legal services.
Method of Payment
Avis accept Avis honoured credit/charge cards, American
Express, Diners, Mastercard and Visa. Please note: The
credit card being used needs to be in the name of the
renter.
Avis South Africa DO NOT accept Debit cards/Cheque
cards, all numbers must be raised on card.
How is the 24-hour period calculated?
Rates are calculated on a 24-hour period from the time
you sign the rental contract until the return of the
vehicle. We do allow a 29 minute "grace period" on the
final day of return as a gesture of goodwill.
